DJ Burns Works In Progress
DJ Burns’ writing explores feminist attitudes, and she aims to share stories of women who have faced adversity and emerged victorious. Women’s stories, fiction or nonfiction, need to be shared with other women, specifically to empower and support the world we are in today.
Her young adult stories intend to do the same with contemporary fiction, fantasy, science fiction, and romance.
Short Story Fiction:
"Teenage Rebellion" – Samantha is a troubled teenager. At ten years old, she was raped by her older brother's friend. She had acted out in school until her parents finally had enough, and she was sent to a military school. A coming-of-age novel that reflects the choices a girl makes when nobody addresses the very real issue, abuse.Young Adult fiction.
"The Fourth Flood, a New Narrative" – Zach and Olive, recently married and living in the Shenandoah Mountains, are visited by aliens who tell them of an impending flood of epic proportions. How can they survive when few people believe them? A science fiction story based on the ancient narratives of the biblical flood. Young Adult fiction.
"A Time for Healing" – Thomas was a Navy SEAL who was diagnosed with PTSD after a traumatic rescue mission. He’s on the road to recovery through writing. He travels to New York City to meet with a Publisher when a car backfires; he drags his Editor through the streets of the city to escape what he perceives to be an ambush. A romance story of help and healing. Adult fiction.
Essays:
"A Chronic Procrastinator’s Story" – an essay about chronic procrastination, how one woman tries to overcome her procrastination by viewing her past trauma. Adult Nonfiction.
Currently Working On:
DJ Burns is currently working on a screenplay with the working title "Mistaken Identity." A middle-aged woman travels to Sardinia to teach English and gets abducted in a case of mistaken identity. There she meets two men, one good and the other bad. They are twins. Could this be related to the Italian mafia?
